The cover is in an off yellow shade, with the familiar retro-hop italicized Ferns label and "On Botany" album name.

And as you can see, it's REAL ASTROTURF!!! It feels green to the touch.

The inside is simple and direct, pleasing to the eye (of course). I don't know why Warren is a wheelbarrow and why Dave and Boon cross each other as spade and fork. The design reminds me of my wedding card.

It's a pseudo-book.

Caught on camera at a gig NOT THEIR OWN is Dave and Warren (the Man himself). They were seen hanging out with Adrian aka The Geek and a giddy Wannabe Indie Rock Chick, bobbing their heads and tapping their feet to the performance of another band from New York who were performing at Zouk KL last night. I shan't reveal the other band's name here.

Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Either that or in your studio mixing and whatever else it is you guys do for an album.

To soothe the pains of Ms. Dissapointment, here's a photo review of some groupies' trip to Baybeats, Singapore - the Ferns performance was stellar, no doubt.

The band has finally(?) announced that the album should be ready in July, during their set at the Troubadors KLPAC 15th April show. I've now succumbed to the fact that it's better to see Ferns live because they seem to be getting better and there are perks in watching them live, which includes seeing them make very insignificant mistakes, joke with each other, and listen to country-fied renditions of their compositions.

They're expected to do a show later at the end of April at KL Jam Asia, at Sri Hartamas.

new "teaser" demo album coming out

Warren has finally decided to release a "demo" album featuring 2 songs from the upcoming debut. There will be limited units, so if you're intending to get your hands on one of these things, make sure you get Warren to make MORE COPIES... as opposed to getting yours first before others.

They will be on sale on Tuesday night (23 Jan 2006) at the No Black Tie gig..... that is, tomorrow.

They will be going for RM5 apiece, which is absolutely too cheap. Hence the need to clobber Warren over the head and buy more CDs from him, meaning he'll have to make more copies..... as in, he needs YOU to tell HIM to make more copies.

Of course, he doesn't know that.

This is little miss disappointed's story so far...

I met Warren a long time ago at another friend's house, before Ferns banded together and became what they are today. I thought Warren was such a funny character, albeit a little aloof. That was the first and last time I ever saw this Warren of a person.

After that, all I ever came close to anything Warren-related were through stories of The Geek. I built an altar at which I brought all my belly-aching laughter to worship at because it turns out, Warren was funnier than I originally knew him to be. But the best part of all was when I found out he's in a band. "Wow," I thought to myself, "surely he'll be releasing and album soon."

I was wrong.

Soon turned out to be weeks. Then months. Then well, still months seeing that it's now a year since I heard about Ferns' album.

Album, smalbum.

Come this April it'll be a year and still no album in sight. You see, I'm on a journey to become a Cool Indie Rock Chick. I had hoped that with the Ferns' album, my status from being Padawan Indie Rock Chick will eventually be realized as that album will propel me into Cool Indie Rock Chick-dom.

Alas, my hopes dashed, my dreams of owning their album crushed and as for Cool Indie Rock Chick-dom? Sigh...my Utopia.

But all's not lost...

The Geek sent me a link. It was the link to Ferns' MySpace...err...space that had three of their songs! I was elated. Ecstatic. I can once again take out my Utopia and blow the dusts of all those long-awaited months and see Cool Indie Rock Chick-dom again. There was still hope for those songs Ferns' streamed was a hope that fuelled the possibility of my possession of their album a little higher. I was once again happy.

That feeling is once again gone. More months has passed since that day I was given the link, which I have lovingly save to my Favorites and go to as often as my dial-up connection lets me. I sit everyday, waiting for what seems like forever before my trusty and pre-historic Internet connection loads and then buffers and then eventually stream the beautiful songs that is Ferns' creation.

April

I've added a poll to vote on how much folks would pay for the new Ferns album. Personally, I would pay fifty ringgit and go celebrate with the band in some posh restaurant... Some may differ in opinion. Either way, please vote....!

The Warren, the Album and a Bathrobe.

The protagonist and band during happier times ...

Who is Warren? Actually, that question is secondary to the big enchilada question - when is the album actually finishing? And that big enchilada question is slightly superseded by its little half brother - what the holy tail smokes album is this?

Nope, not your grandma's photo album or that Pat Boone record your father seems incline to play every Christmas when the family has their annual turkey dinner. Absolutely not. We are talking about the debut album from big green 'nasi kandar' eating machine Ferns

Despite desperate pleas from friends, a DVD peddler down the street and his mother's brother's son-in-law's girlfriend's pet fish's mate to finish the album, Warren is adamant that the album should take no less than 857 days to complete.

An inside snitch reports that band members have taken to the streets, looting 'durian' stalls wearing nothing but bathrobes to protest Warren's decision. More updates as the days/months/years/decades/centuries unfold.
